About Gail Whitmore

Born in Glasgow and raised in New York City, Gail has been working first as a volunteer and then as a professional in counseling and crisis intervention for over twenty years.

After completing her studies in Voice, Musicology and Languages at the University of Michigan, Gail volunteered for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. After two years she trained in counseling, grief and palliative care at the Jacob Perlow Hospice at Beth Israel Medical Center.

Following that, Gail was trained in crisis prevention and intervention by Covenant House and went on to work for their Nineline, the largest crisis hotline in the United States.

Gail also conducted a recreational discussion group for the Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter encouraging program members to share their loves of and perspectives on the music that had helped shape their lives.

Gail provides counseling, general support and emergency service for individuals and couples. Her experience includes depression (including perinatal and post-partum), suicide, self-injury, relationship concerns, sexual assault, GLBTQ challenges, bereavement, domestic violence, eating disorders and more.

Also on offer is work for business teams who wish for their employees to be happier, more productive and have more fine-tuned and developed interpersonal skills.

Living in Prague for the past eight years, Gail actively gives workshops in the Czech school system on domestic violence and incest; she spearheaded the first V-Day campaign in the Czech Republic to help end violence towards women and girls. She is also a former member of both the Supervisory and Advisory Boards of the Liga lidských práv (League of Human Rights).

A native English speaker, Gail is fluent in Czech, Italian and Spanish; conversant in German; has basic use of French and Dutch; services are currently offered only in English and Italian.
